BTJunkie Bit Torrent Site Voluntarily Shuts Down

As reported by the Rolling Stone, the wars against piracy wage on. While some websites are being struck down, others are willingly retreating from the battlefield before blood is drawn.  BTJunkie, one of the most popular torrent sites in the world, has just voluntarily shut down.

Those headed over to BTJunkie ready for a new bout of pirating will be met with this disconcerting message that reads like an epitaph:

This is the end of the line my friends.  The decision does not come easy, but we’ve decided to voluntarily shut down.  We’ve been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it’s time to move on.  It’s been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!

This announcement is undoubtably a response to the shutting down of MegaUpload.  With Kim Dotcom being indicted for both copyright infringement and money laundering, the bigwigs of the pirating community are starting to shake in their boots.  Though BTJunkie is the first website to voluntarily shut down all operations, they aren’t the first to react.  Recently, FileSonic and Upload.to both took measures towards preventing their potential indictment.  Though BTJunkie’s pirating community will find new websites to do their torrenting, it is continually becoming more clear that the battle is not yet over.
