L.A. Reid‘s twitter post might have been bit misleading, but his announcement that a new album can be expected from Fiona Apple in 2012 is completely accurate. This new venture follows her 2005 release, Extraordinary Machine.
Fiona Apple, who enjoyed vast success in the 90s after her breakout hit “Criminal”, is due to release a new album sometime this year. Rolling Stone’s Barry Walters had this to say about her previous record, Extraordinary Machine:
Throughout, Apple’s torch and torch-you songs now balance her precocious depth with a hard-won directness. Against all odds, Extraordinary Machine lives up to its title as a testimony to its creator’s resilience and flexibility. Apple hasn’t compromised, as some of her fans have feared; instead she’s turned her label’s interference into inspiration.
Apple won the 1998 Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal for her performance of “Criminal”. Listen to the track below. Other albums of hers include Tidal and When the Pawn…. She has also performed for several film soundtracks like Pleasantville, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. There is not yet further information about her new recording.
