New Album From The Mars Volta’s To Be Titled Noctourniquet and Will be Released March 2012

Amid the buzz of the At the Drive-In reunion, The Mars Volta has announced that they will be releasing their sixth album, Noctourniquet, this March. The title of the album comes from a fictional device that Cedric Bixler-Zavala imagined would prevent nightfall and help people solve their problems. The Texan progressive rock band, The Mars Volta, was formed soon after the disbanding of At the Drive-In, when two members of At the Drive-In, guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala, decided to break out of At the Drive-In’s punk and hardcore and dive into more progressive, psychedelic-tinged rock and roll.  The splitting up of At the Drive-In occurred in 2001 in a somewhat tense fashion, and each of the musicians went on to produce music in new ways.

The Mars Volta incorporates many different styles in their music, including progressive rock, krautrock, jazz fusion, Latin American music, and math rock.  You can listen to some of their new material here.
