Watch: New Video from Danger Mouse and Danielle Luppi’s ROME featuring Jack White for “Two Against One”

To the excitement of many, it has been announced that Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi’s Rome is blossoming into a project larger than the composers originally imagined.  What was originally created to be a film score without the film is being adapted into a feature length movie by director Chris Milk.  In support of his endeavor, Chris Milk and collaborator Anthony Francisco Schepperd have created an animated music video for one of the album’s standout tracks, “Two Against One”.

The Milk/Schepperd duo created a powerful counterpart to a memorable song on the album where Jack White croons “It’s just you and me against me”.  The stark black and white imagery signal to Milk’s knack for the visual, while the narrative involves the story of a hunter in an attempt to capture the tortured human psyche.

Rather than this video being a direct depiction of what we should come to expect from the film, it instead should be viewed as a precursor.  Milk’s vision in the video gives us a glimpse into the life of the film’s antagonist.  Milk explains, “It’s mostly his backstory, his life before the tale we see in the movie.”

Although the music video is filled with impressive animation, the feature length film will be live action. In a similar spirit to the promotional quality of the music video, Google Chrome users can head to www.Ro.me for an “interactive lucid dream” of the film’s protagonist.  Seriously, check it out.  It takes you along on a journey through an awe-inspiring world in a style of animation completely distinct from that of the music video.

The way this project has been developing over the last couple months leads one to believe that the feature length film should be pretty phenomenal.  Other people involved in the project include Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Megan Ellison (True Grit).  We’ll keep you posted as details continue to surface.
