Bloc Party Confirms New Album

Bloc Party frontman Keke Okereke recently confirmed that the band would be releasing their fourth album later this year, as reported by Spin. This will be the first album since the British post-punk group began hiatus in 2009.

Okereke reportedly told BBC’s Zane Lowe that the four piece have recorded two new tracks and demoed 17 more. The band’s debut, Silent Arm was released in 2005 and was well-received by fans and critics alike.

“We’ve all felt that whatever energy was there in the beginning was definitely still there,” Okereke told BBC. “That’s the reason for making the record again.”

The singer sounds optimistic about the Bloc Party revival, commenting that if asked in 2009 after the Reading Festival whether or not another Bloc Party album was likely, he would’ve said no. He goes further to say that “the people who will be into indie music now are the people who are going to love it [the new album], and that it is “rather liberating”. He describes the upcoming record as “sounding unlike anyone else on the planet”, saying he is “excited to be playing rock music again”. Stay tuned for updates.
