On March 24 2012, The Mountain Goats will be debuting a new collection of songs in a very special way. At Merkin Concert Hall in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, John Darnielle will showcase his new songs, entitled Transcendental Youth, via an interesting collaboration with Owen Pallet.
Transcendental Youth is the new project for The Mountain Goats that John Darnielle has been working on. For this project, he has been collaborating with a vocal quartet called Anonymous 4. The Mountain Goats’ will be debuting this material at their performance taking place at the Ecstatic Music Festival, which celebrates music which is considered ‘post-classical’. This unique performance will begin with a solo performance by Darnielle featuring some of The Mountain Goats’ material, and then Anonymous 4 and Owen Pallet will join him for a collaborative effort featuring Owen Pallett’s rearrangements of Transcendental Youth. These rearrangements are based off vocals, guitar, and piano, and will form new compositions from the collection.
