Since the devastating stage collapse before a Sugarland performance at the Indiana State Fair earlier this year, two women have been found to have faked injuries at the show. They were hoping to collect a profit from their scheme, but are now being charged.
Stephanie Murry, 25, and Sandra Hurn, 38, were accused by Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry of falsely claiming to have been hurt in the stage accident. The two had been trying to get share of the $22, 500 that had been reserved for the real victims of the collapse by the Fair’s Remembrance Fund, and the Indiana Tort Claim Fund.
Both women offered inaccurate accounts of the events before the stage collapse, which has led to charges of theft, attempted theft, forgery, and perjury. If they are found guilty Hurn might see 36 years in prison, and Murry could see 14.
