Wye Oak Releases AV Club “Undercover” Series EP

2011 was a busy year for Baltimore-based folk rock duo Wye Oak, with the group most recently releasing special EP in collaboration with the AV Club for the “Undercover” series this past Black Friday Record Store Day.  Seeing a release from Merge on November 22, the EP features a performance of The Kinks’ “Strangers” and Danzig’s “Mother.”

“We had a blast participating in the AV Club’s Undercover series and were pleasantly surprised that so many people enjoyed our take on these two songs. We’re happy to have these versions released for those who were interested in owning them for themselves. Thanks to Merge and the AV Club for making it all happen,” said member Jenn Wasner of the EP.

The group first stopped by the AV Club’s Chicago office in the spring of 2010 to perform “Strangers” along with Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg—that performance went on to be voted as one of the top choices for “Best of the Series” in the AV Club’s poll regarding the Undercover performances.  Wye Oak returned to the AV Club in spring 2011 to perform Danzig’s “Mother” with the help of Don Godwin of Callers.
