Joe Goddard of Hot Chip is teaming up with DJ/producer Raf Daddy to form a new project dubbed The 2 Bears. Their debut album, Be Strong, will be available digitally January 31 via DFA records, with a physical release soon to follow.
Since their start in 2009, The 2 Bears have released 3 EP’s, along with being featured on Death Cab For Cutie’s Keys and Codes Remix EP. Their style tends to blend soul with glitchy dance music. For this album, Goddard created beats that Raf Daddy recorded vocals over. These vocals, which were originally intended to be scrapped, ended up being a fundamental layer in the overall sound of Be Strong. Judging by their single, expect the album to be intricately layered, danceable, groovy, and even anthemic at times.
