Adele’s 21 Named Best-Selling Album Since 2004

English singer-songwriter Adele’s sophomore album, 21, has official been named the best-selling album of 2011—and not only that, but it’s the best selling album of the last seven years as well.

Having sold some 5.28 million copies in 2011, 21 serves as the music industry’s best-selling album since Usher sold over 8 million copies of his 2004 album, Confessions, reports Billboard.

To provide further context, superstar Lady Gaga’s Born This Way sold about 2 million copies in 2011, and last year’s best selling album—Eminem’s Recovery—sold around 3.42 million copies. Adele’s tour revenue did not match her record sales mostly due to the cancelation of her US tour.
