Prominent singer/songwriter and activist Ani DiFranco has announced a January 17 release date for her new album, What Side Are You On?. The album is out via DiFranco’s Righteous Babe’s Records. As the title suggests, the album is named after and includes a “radially reworked” version of Florence Reese’s 1931 protest song popularized by Pete Seeger, featuring the singer himself, as well as 11 brand-new tracks. The album is being co-produced by DiFranco and Napolitano.
Many other diverse and unique musicians joined DiFranco to contribute to Which Side Are You On? in addition to Seeger, including Ivan and Cyril Neville (of The Neville Brothers), avant-saxophonist Skerik (Pearl Jam, R.E.M.), singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, guitarist Adam Levy (Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman), and a host of New Orleans-based horn players known for their work in such outfits as Galactic, Bonerama, and The Rebirth Brass Band.
