Tyler the Creator Announces New Album Wolf Set To Be Released May 2012

Odd Future fans who reveled in the collective’s overtly explicit lyrics might want to reevaluate their expectations for the new Tyler the Creator album.  Wolf is set to be released in May 2012, but the rapper who made a name for himself by glorifying the obscene and the violent has commented that he will be swaying away from that lyrical direction on the new release.

Tyler the Creator had this to say in a new SPIN feature:

“Talking about rape and cutting bodies up, it just doesn’t interest me anymore…What interests me is making weird hippie music for people to get high to.  With Wolf, I’ll brag a little more, talk about money and buying shit.  But not like any other rapper, I’ll be a smart-ass about it.  Now it’s just girls throwing themselves at me and shit, but I got a girl back home.  People who want the first album again, I can’t do that.  I was 18, broke as fuck.  On my third album, I have money and I’m hanging out with my idols.  I can’t rap about the same shit.”

According to Tyler the Creator, the lyrical content that has received great praise and scathing criticism was more indicative of circumstance than preference.  As his status has shifted with success, as will his gaze for the new album.  Come May, expect to hear a new sound from Tyler the Creator.
