The BBC had announced that English rockers Elbow will compose a piece of music for the UK-hosted 2012 Olympics. The six-minute track, called “First Steps” will be used across all coverage of the Games.

Elbow Frontman, Guy Garvey, cheers the crowd and makes it no secret that he is excellent at what he does

The BBC has announced a series of cultural programs for the Olympics and the London 2012 Festival, and artistic contributions to the upcoming games continue to grow.

Lead singer Gus Garvey said of the appointment “”It’s a real challenge because it’s designed to fit important images nationally and people’s endeavors, people have trained their whole lives for that moment.”

According to the BBC, “First Steps” will be aired in May of 2012, around the time of the torch relay.

“It should be just about the most heard piece of music in 2012,” says London 2012 director Roger Mosey.

Garvey is taking the group’s responsibilities in stride, saying “There was a big feeling of responsibility but also we’re just dead proud to be doing it.”
