Cincinnati legends, The Afghan Whigs, formed in 1986 and they released six critically acclaimed albums while they were together, with 1993’s Gentlemen LP perhaps being their career highlight.  In 20012, fans were dismayed to hear news that the band had broken up.  In 2006 the band briefly reunited to release two new tracks, but until now, that was the last we had heard of The Afghan Whigs.

For the first time in 13 years, the band will be playing in concert.  Original members Greg Dulli, John Curley, and Rick McCollum have reunited along with other musicians to be announced.  The band has agreed to reunite to play ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror 2012 festivals in the UK and US.  Guided by Voices was supposed to be the Sunday headliner’s at I’ll Be Your Mirror in London, but it has been recently announced that The Afghan Whigs will be replacing them as the last act of the festival.  ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror will take place at Alexandria Palace in London from May 25-27.  You can pick up your tickets now at the ATP site.

Later on in 2012, The Afghan Whigs will be heading across the Atlantic to play ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror USA 2012.  This concert will take place September 21-23 at Asbury Park, NJ.  The festival will be curated by the Whigs’ frontman, Greg Dulli.  Tickets for I’ll Be Your Mirror USA 2012 will go on sale January 2012.
