Premiere: Free Download and Video of Fay Wolf’s “The Thread of the Thing”

Los Angeles based indie- pop singer/songwriter Fay Wolf premiered music video for “The Thread of the Thing” today, from her self-released full length album Spiders, released November 8, 2011. The singer/pianist will be also be playing a special benefit show on December 6 for Free the Slaves. Billed as Voices for Freedom, the show is being held to raise funds and awareness to the millions of people on the globe still living in slavery, and is being presented by the Charitable Living Group. Advance tickets for the show have sold out (way to go you gracious souls!), but some tickets may still be available at the door, so if you’re in the area definitely stop by the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles to see the fresh-faced Wolf, joined by veterans Joe Purdy, Cary Brothers and The Rescues, among many other talented and charitable musicians coming together to play music for a good cause. If you can’t make it, you can still check out the video premier for “The Thread of the Thing”, as well as a free download of the track after the jump:

Wolf describes her sound as “sad piano pop” in an interview with Cherry Girl, and “The Thread of the Thing” does not shy far away from that description. Negative images of fireworks burst slowly against white background, matching the somber snaps of the snare, accompanied by Wolf’s delicate piano playing and ethereal vocals, whilst the lyrics dance across the screen in various multicolored blurbs.

Spiders was produced by Billy Mohler (Macy Gray, Lenka, War Tapes) and Joshua Ostrander (Eastern Conference Champions, Kav, Voxhaul Broadcast). In addition to Spiders, Wolf also released an EP in 2009 entitled Blankets, which gained her songs play on hit television shows like Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill and Covert Affairs. Her popularity quickly spread through word of mouth, and since her and many of the other artists performing at The Hotel Cafe on December 6 can trace their roots back to the venue (and of course because it is for an awesome cause) it is safe to say Voices for Freedom is going to be an intimate gathering to say the very least.

In addition to her live shows, which she describes as “sadsongfunnyjokemusictimes,” the singer/songwriter/de facto comedian is also a classically trained actress who has had guest appearances on shows such as 2 Broke Girl$, Children’s Hospital, Miami Medical, Numb3rs, Bones, Ghost Whisperer, and NCIS: Los Angeles. Her cover of The Outsider’s “Your Love” was also featured exclusively on the television soundtrack for the show Pretty Little Liars.

As if being an actress and a performing musician isn’t enough to keep a woman busy, Wolf also has her own professional organizing company, named New Order after the band formed by members of Joy Division after Ian Curtis’ untimely 1980 death.
