Preservation Hall Jazz Band to be Joined by Morning Jacket, Mos Def, Blind Boys of Alabama and More

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has announced their special guests whom will join the famous jazz band during their 50th anniversary performance.  Set for Jan. 7 at Carnegie Hall; My Morning Jacket, Del McCoury Band, Trombone Shorty, GIVERS, Allen Toussaint, Blind Boys of Alabama, Tao Seeger, and Mos Def will share the Perelman Stage with the New Orleans jazz band.

Heralding the distinct sound and style of New Orleans jazz the world over, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has continued the traditional birthing style of jazz music which traces it’s roots back to the turn of the 20th century.  The first of it’s kind, Dixieland Jazz quickly spread to Chicago, Kansas City, and New York leading to the flourishing of the genre through the 1920’s, 1930’s and beyond.

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band musicians have been tailored through experience and apprenticeship for this original style of jazz music while also contributing their talents to modern music.  Having collaborated with artists such as; Tom Waits, Pete Seeger, Ani DiFranco, My Morning Jacket, and the Del McCoury Band, the band is not foreign to performing with artists of different tastes and talents.

It comes as little surprise to see their fellow collaborators My Morning Jacket and the Del McCoury Band amongst the special guests invited to the 50th anniversary performance.  For the Del McCoury Band, whom released a collaborative album with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on April 12, the invitation must come as a special treat of honor for having recorded American Legacies with Preservation Hall earlier this year.
