Watch: Dr. Dre to Take a Break From the Studio

Dr. Dre recently announced his plans to take a break from the recording studio in an interview with Fader, as Prefix points out. Check out the video after the jump:

Dre cites his reason for the time off as a much-needed break from a nearly constant recording schedule over the hip-hop mogul’s nearly three-decade stranglehold on the industry.

“I’ve been working on music for 27 years now,” Dre tells Fader during the grand opening of the first ever Beats by Dre store that recently opened in SoHo, “and the longest I’ve ever been out of the studio is 2 weeks.”

In addition to his Beats by Dre headphone line, the producer/ entreprenuer is also finishing up his work with newcomers Slim Mobster and Kendrick Lamar before going on hiatus. After discussing goals for his brand (not only does he want to “take over everything with a speaker”, he also aspires for Beats by Dre to be in line with Apple) he closes the interview with a final thought to anyone who dare say he may be ready to throw in the towel:

“I’m never going to stop music,” he reflects. “It is like air to me. I’m going to enjoy some time with the family until I get that itch to get back in.”
