Long-running New Jersey post-hardcore outfit Thursday recently announced that they will go on an indefinite hiatus at the conclusion of their current tour, which kicked of early last week in New York.
Touring in support of their sixth studio album, No Devolución, the band will wrap up their 13-year career following the Australian leg of that tour is completed. The American leg wraps up on December 30 in Philadelphia, PA.
“Thursday will be playing our final shows, starting tomorrow night and ending with our tour in Australia. We would love to see you all one more time. So please, if we’re near your city, come out and have fun with us. It has been our pleasure and honor to make music for such wonderful people over the last thirteen years,” said vocalist Geoff Rickly in an official statement.
The band revealed via a statement on their site that the decision to go on hiatus primarily stemmed from ongoing personal difficulties. However, the statement maintained that infighting was not the issue.
“We haven’t had any falling out and are all still close. I’m sure that we will continue to create, in some capacity, together,” read the statement.
The statement goes on to say that Rickly and company have discussed other avenues for Thursday, including turning the group into “a non-profit, a band that only records sporadically, a collection of other projects…,” but nothing has been decided (aside from the hiatus) as of yet.
The group leaves behind six well-received studio albums, five EPs and a slew of singles to mark their 13-year run. Known for their distinctive dove logo, Thursday has been credited as serving as a watershed group in the evolution and definition of mainstream post-hardcore and emo.
