The Roots entered the national political dialogue early last week after playing out Republican presidential hopeful rep. Michelle Bachmann to a snippet of Fishbone’s “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” for an interview on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Since then, Bachmann has taken to the press to express her outrage at the Philadelphia hip-hop outfit’s song choice.
De-facto group leader and percussionist ?uestlove roused fans for the subtle dig before for the show, tweeting:
“aight late night walkon song devotees: you love it when we snark: this next one takes the cake. ask around cause I ain’t tweeting title.”
He confirmed the song selection after it was identified by fans through posting up a link to Fishbone’s iTunes store. Check out the incident below:
Since word spread about the song choice, Bachmann has been voicing her displeasure. Calling the event an “outrage,” Bachmann has garnered support for her feels in both sides of the American political aisle—rep. Nita Lowey, a democrat from New York, supported the her saying that women should not be subject to disrespect of that nature.
Fallon has gone on to apologize for the song choice, ?uestlove later joined Fallon with his own apology. A fan of Fallon, Bachmann reportedly had little trouble accepting his apology.
“The point is, if that had been Michelle Obama who had come out on the stage and that song had been played to Michelle Obama, I have no doubt that NBC would have apologized to her. This is clearly a form of bias on the side of the entertainment elite,” Bachmann said in a recent interview.
