Fleet Foxes have put out fittingly epic and haunting video for one of the standout tracks on their sophomore LP, Helplessness Blues. The video for “The Shrine/An Argument” was directed and co-animated by frontman Robin Pecknold’s brother, Sean Pecknold.
This year’s Helplessness Blues stunned fans and critics alike with the Fleet Foxes’ ability to take their folksy song crafting to a new level. “The Shrine/An Argument” is the longest track on the record, clocking in at 8:23 and is comprised of three separate movements. Sean Pecknold’s haunting companion piece meditates on some of the same themes of struggle and loss that are expressed lyrically and musically, like in the memorable and disillusioning horn solo toward the end of the song. The video’s equally epic vision serves as a powerful counterpart to the song, providing a visual narrative that takes you along on a journey from the desert to the bottom of the ocean.
