Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Lou Reed, Talib Kweli Join Occupy Musicians

Some new names have been added to the ranks of Occupy Musicians, including Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, Lou Reed, and Talib Kweli.  The Occupy Music site has organized the music world’s solidarity with the OWS movements, and states that it will serve as both a starting-point for performances and a headquarters for the audio-visual documentation of the protests.

“We, the undersigned musicians and all who will join us, support Occupy Wall Street and the Occupy Movement around the world,” reads the opening statements on the site. It then includes a roll-call of signed artists, including the likes of Tom Morello (see him giving an Occupy performance here), Amanda Palmer, and Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu).

The protest movements have so far attracted the attention and involvement of many socially-conscious musicians. The site also solicits for more members, asking for all musicians in support of the Occupy movements to send an email including name, instruments, musical affiliations, and location to occupymsicians@gmail.com.

The site also refers viewers to other Occupy arts sites such as Occupy Writers, Occupy Filmmakers, and Occupy Comics.
