Swedish pop rock outfit The Sounds brought their infectious fusion of indie rock and electronica to a packed house at The Wiltern last Wednesday. Ever-energetic frontwoman Maja Ivarsson literally strutted her stuff in a short black dress and high heels, much to the delight of the males at the front of the house; her perfect-front woman repertoire included drinking beer between songs, smoking cigarettes during them, and crawling along the front of the stage on her hands and knees. She must get plenty of Red Bull.
Ivarsson maintained her energy throughout the whole 90 minute set, including during crowd favorites “Living In America” and “Painted By Numbers.” The rest of the performance was heavy on material culled from their latest long-player Something To Die For.
The night culminated with Maja inviting everyone on to the stage to join the band for the finalé, much to the shock of the venue security, with around 20 fans taking the opportunity to dance around aimlessly on stage for a few precious minutes, and take self portraits on their Blackberries and iPhones with Ivarsson.
