In anticipation for the 40th anniversary of L.A. Woman, the final album which Jim Morrison recorded with The Doors before his death, Rhino in conjunction with Eagle Rock Entertainment are releasing quite a treat for any fan of the old blues band. Releasing next year will be a 2-CD anniversary edition of the 1971 album, a behind-the-scenes DVD with new interviews from the surviving Doors members, and a three sided vinyl LP of L.A. Woman.
Releasing in tandem with “The Year of the Doors” the anniversary CD will feature alternate versions to seven of the album’s ten tracks along with the previously unreleased song, “She Smells So Nice,” recorded during the L.A. Woman sessions. Discovered by producer Bruce Botnick while reviewing the session tapes, the unreleased track has been forgotten within the session tapes for over 40 years.
The two record vinyl will feature all previously unheard alternative versions to many of the album’s songs including the previously unreleased track ripped right from the session tapes. The B-side of the second features a laser etched depiction of the original “Electric Woman” album artwork.
The DVD and Bluray Mr. Mojo Risin’: The Story of L.A. Woman documents the behind-the-scenes story of the albums creation with rare archival photos and footage from in the studio and out. Aside from the archival footage, new interviews with keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robbie Krieger, drummer John Densmore, Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman, and studio engineer and co-producer Bruce Botnick also shed light onto the final recording sessions with the alluring frontman Jim Morrison.
