In the last 6 months, Vince Clarke and Martin L. Gore have been working on a new project. Both musicians are well established veterans in their field, with Clarke contributing to Erasure, Yazoo, and Depeche Mode, and Gore working with Depeche Mode. This project, VCMG, will be there first time collaborating since 1981.
The newly formed VCMG will start off the promotional hype with the release of a series of EP’s until the new album drops in early 2012. It should be an interesting experiment, because these two pioneers of electronic music will be operating within the genre of techno. The way that VCMG came about by Clarke listening to a lot of minimalist electronic music and then deciding to make a techno album. He realized that this new musical endeavor would require a partner in crime, so he sent Gore an email asking if he would like to participate in the new project.
The strange nature of their collaborative arrangement caused the writing of the music to be done in a unique way. Clarke and Gore never met in person throughout the process of writing and recording the album. They exchanged ideas and files via email, while each worked in their respective studios. Within six months, the record was done. Their first release, entitled EP1/SPOCK, and will be initially available as a global exclusive on Beatport on November 30 and then will be officially released December 13.
