Odd Future Removed from New Zealand Big Day Out Bill Due to Lyrical Content

This year has been a big one in the Odd Future camp in terms of controversy. Last week, group member Left Brain reportedly smacked freelance photographer during a show at New Orleans, LA’s The Voodoo Experience. Now, organizers of Auckland’s Big Day Out festival have removed the group from their event’s lineup due to their lyrical content.

According to a report from the New Zealand Herald, Auckland City Council demanded Odd Future be removed from BDO’s roster because of lyrical content they deemed homophobic and misogynistic.  Incidentally, the Council also owns the venue where the festival is taking place, Mt. Smart Stadium.

Despite their removal from the bill, Odd Future is still claiming that they will perform at the festival’s scheduled Australian dates. A report from NME indicates that festival organizers are working on a headlining New Zealand show for the hip hop collective.

The group isn’t taking it too hard, though.

“How many people can say they are banned from new Zealand? haha,” read tweet from Odd Future member Domo Genesis.
