The Roots Announce Track Listing and Collaborators For undun Including A Special Track Featuring Sufjan Stevens

Having recently released videos for “Make My” and “Tip the Scale,” Philadelphia hip hop crew The Roots have finally released the tracklisting for their upcoming album, Undun. Out December 6, the Roots current effort will feature cameos from Big K.R.I.T., Dice Raw and indie artist Sufjan Stevens.

Dice Raw, who worked with the Roots on How I Got Over, returns for Undun along with previous collaborators P.O.R.N. and Phonte.  Tracks featuring those artists include “Kool On,” “One Time” and “Stomp.” Big K.R.I.T. is featured on the previously released track “Make My.”

Sufjan Stevens appears on the cover of his own “Redford (For Yia Yia & Pappou),” a track that got the Roots treatment this time around to become a four-part movement.

“We’ve always loved the song ‘Redford’ from Michigan. So we close the new album with a cover of ‘Redford’. We stretched it out into this four-part movement. Part 1 is Sufjan at the piano performing it. And then Part 2 is a string quartet that we had interpret it. Part 3 is myself and D.D. Jackson, who is an avant-garde piano player. He’s probably one of the most dangerous pianists — I don’t know how he doesn’t have carpal tunnel now. But he just destroys, literally, destroys the piano. The final movement, which ends the record, is essentially the beginning of the story. But it’s the last thing you hear. It’s a very powerful piece of work,” said Roots leader Questlove in a recent SPIN interview.
