Blur/Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn recently announced the name of his supergroup with Flea and Tony Allen. Dubbed Rocketjuice And The Moon, the group will make their live debut this Saturday at London’s Barbican venue.
Interestingly enough, none of the band members came up with the band’s name. In a recent interview with the Irish Times, Albarn said that the name came from the artist who design the album’s sleeve work:
Someone in Lagos did the sleeve design and that’s the name he gave it, which suits me because trying to find a name for another band is always tricky.
The band’s Barbican performance will be part of the program for Another Honest Jon’s Chop Up!, which also features Theo Parrish and Fatoumata Diawara.
In addition to booking their live debut, the band has also confirmed their debut studio album, which reportedly will be self-titled and see a release in 2012.
In mid-November, Albarn will join The Good, The Bad & The Queen for two shows at the Coronet.
