Last week, we reported on the bankruptcy of four members of British reggae outfit UB40. This week, former singer Ali Campbell joins his ex-bandmates on the list of UB40 members who Birmingham County Court declared bust.
Campbell was initially considered insolvent back in June by the Bournemouth County Court according to a recent report from The Sunday Mercury. Yesterday marked his official bankruptcy at the decision of the same Birmingham court that declared his other former band members bankrupt last week.
The UB40 members’ bankruptcy stems primarily from the failure of DEP International, the group’s management and record company. Financial issues within the band led to Campbell’s decision to leave UB40 back in 2008.
Campbell has said that he attempted to caution the rest of the group about their financial ruin. However, a post from the UB40 site points the finger back at Campbell:
“The financial difficulties were as a result of our singer leaving. It caused us to lose several million pounds worth of work and this had a knock-on effect of creating a black hole that the band have been working to drag themselves out of.”
