Last week, Evanescence’s self-titled third major label release debuted at the number one spot on The Billboard 200 chart with 127,000 copies sold in the first week along. This is their first number one album since The Open Door, which hit the number one spot with 447,00 copies sold back in 2006.
What’s more, their early albums continue to sell actual physical copies. The Open Door stands at 2.1 million copies sold in the US, while their 2003’s debut, Fallen, as sold some 7.6 million copies itself.
Evanescence marks the group’s first effort since The Open Door, and it’s been a long time coming. The gap between their most recent release and their previous album, according to singer Amy Lee, was incurred at her behest.
“I think people a lot of times get pressure for moving fast, especially in this day and age — you know, the public has a short attention span, you know, it’s all about striking while the iron’s hot. I don’t believe that. I believe in great music. If this is gonna be our big Evanescence comeback record, it wasn’t there yet. So we kept working. We ended up making a record that I’m just, it’s my favorite so far. We’re all really proud of it,” she said in a recent Pulse of Radio interview.
