Seminal English alternative rock outfit The Stone Roses recently confirmed at London press conference that they will reunite for a world tour next year. What’s more, the reunion will consist of the group’s four original members.
Vocalist Ian Brown, bassist Gary “Main” Mounfield, guitarist John Squire and drummer Alan “Reni” Wren will kick off their reunion with a couple of shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park June 29-30 next year. After that, the group will embark on a comeback world tour during which they plan to play never-before-heard tracks.

“This is a live resurrection, and you’re all invited, so you better be there,” quipped Brown at the press conference.
Brown also made it clear at the press conference that plans for a new album are currently up in the air, saying that the band hopes to get into the studio but that “we said that before.”
Making their way to the public eye shortly after their formation in 1983, the Stone Roses are widely considered to be a pioneering outfit in the well-known “Madchester” music scene that brought us future groups like The Verve, Blur and Oasis.
Their lineup was somewhat fluid throughout a majority of the 80s, but 1989 brought artistic solidification in the form of their self-titled debut full-length. Reviews were mixed at the time of the album’s release, but it did go on to become one of the most respected British titles ever released. In 2006, the famed NME called it the “greatest British album of all time.”
Their sophomore album, Second Coming, hit store shelves in 1994 after years of legal disputes with their former record label, Silvertone. Also met with mixed reviews, Second Coming failed to achieve a similar legendary status as the group’s first release. The album’s commercial failings began to wear on the band, and by March 1995 drummer Reni took his leave. April 1996 brought Squire’s departure, ultimate leaving Mani and Brown to dissolve the group in October 1996.
