Having recently finished up their yearlong reunion tour after some 15 years of inactivity, Guided by Voices will soon release an all new album featuring 21 tracks from the band’s classic 1993-1996 lineup. Entitled Let’s Go Eat the Factory, the album will drop January 1, 2012 via the group’s own Guided By Voices, Inc.
Reportedly a deliberate effort to return to the—in the words of frontman Robert Pollard—“semi-collegial” music-making approach the band tapped for Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes, LGEF sports a sprawling, diverse collection of signature GBV tracks.
That semi-collegial approach was mirrored in the recording of the album, which went down in the basements and garages of members of the band rather than a recording studio. Most of the tracks were essentially recorded live in Mitch Mitchell’s garage, the band’s usual practice space through the mid-90s.
Let’s Go Eat the Factory will serve as the group’s first release since 2004’s Half Smiles of the Decomposed.
