Lincoln Center: Adrian Utley (of Portishead) and Will Gregory (of Goldfrapp) U.S. Premiere The Passion of Joan of Arc October 29

Musicians Adrian Utley and Will Gregory have created a new live score for Carl Theodore’s critically acclaimed 1928 silent film, The Passion of Joan of Arc. This live score will be performed Saturday, October 29 at 7:30 PM in Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center.

The joint composition of the film by Utley and Gregory will be their first attempt of this type.  Although both musicians have backgrounds in classical music, this will be their first individual and collective attempt at re-scoring a film.  The live performance will be conducted by Charles Hazlewood.  Utley will be seen on stage playing the synthesizer and chinese oboe, while Gregory will be featured on the guitar, mandola, and synthesizer.

The live performance will be big in nature, including a choir, six electric guitars, horns, harps, keyboard, and percussion.  Stylistically, the film score focuses on guitar harmonics and pitch-bending synthesizers.  The new score raises the intensity so that it can match the ambitious cinematography of the silent film.

Tickets range from $45 to $80 for a seat at this historic night at the Lincoln Center. The new re-scoring of The Passion of Joan of Arc should be quick to excite lovers of cult classics and ambitious musical projects alike.
