Hank Williams Jr. Clarifies Reference to Obama as ‘Hitler’

We’ve been extensively covering country-punk hillbilly bad-boy Hank Williams III for years now, everything from his brand-new, four album fall releases to ASSJACK,  and the apple truly doesn’t fall far from the tree apparently, because father Hank Williams Jr. has gotten himself into hot-water recently by likening a golf game between President Obama and House Speaker John Boenher as one played by “Hitler and [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu.”on Fox News.

For the first time in years, ESPN viewers did not hear Williams do his signature “Are you ready for some football?” Monday night routine. ESPN issued statement citing disappointment in the singer/songwriter’s choice of words as the reason for dropping the intro.

Hank issued his own statement, recognizing that his comment was extreme, yet also taken out of proportion, and that he “has always respected the office of the President.”

“Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood,” he said. “My analogy was extreme – but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me – how ludicrous that pairing was.”

Perhaps in light of this incident, Williams Jr. has announced a plan to run as a Republican for a U.S. Senate seat in Tennessee in 2012. A portion of the interview is available at NFL.com.
