Back in May, Twin Cities collective Gayngs took bus company CJ Starbuses to court over an incident that resulted in the cancellation of the group’s Austin City Limits performance. Initial reward amounts totaled $100,000, but with the dispute recently being settled in court, that amount has moved up to $270,000.
Last October, Gayngs had their tour bus repossessed by CJ Starbuses over an additional unpaid week that had been tacked on at the cost of $2,500. The band’s manager, Nate Vernon, maintained that he had not received an accurate amount via an invoice from CJ Starbuses and that Gayngs had not signed a lease contract for the tour bus but were allowed to take the bus regardless.
CJ Starbuses owner CJ Curtsinger contacted Vernon on October 9 inquiring about the late payments, which Vernon responded to by requesting an accurate invoice. From there, Curtsinger had the bus repossessed with the group’s gear inside. As a result, Gayngs cancelled their October 10 ACL date.
Initially, a Nashville jury awarded the group $100,000, but in its final judgement, the court rewarded the band $270,000 as part of the final settlement. You can read the full court document here.
