Flaming Lips to Release 24 Hour Song, Five Copies To Be Sold In Human Skulls

The Flaming Lips have plans to release a second multi-hour-length song. Fresh off of the release of their 6-hour song, “I Found A Star On The Ground,” this time the group has plans to release a 24 hour song. Five of the recordings will be transferred to hard drives and placed into human skulls. Each of these five special releases has already sold for $5,000, despite the fact that the song is not yet finished. They’ll be distributed on midnight of Halloween.

The skulls, which are in fact authentic human skulls (obtained legally, of course) will be covered in chrome and packaged in decorative boxes.

Singer Wayne Coyne explained the process of readying human skull for purchase via Twitter. “People heads come into this place and they have these flesh-eating beetles — I would have tweeted a picture of it, but they don’t allow it — literally eat every molecule of flesh off of these things and you’ll end up with a human skull.”

Unappetizing, yes, but people have come to expect stunts like this from the group. They’ve so far released a song composed entirely of Youtube videos, a gummy skull (and other body parts) packed with music, and of course, the six hour song featuring fan’s names read out by Sean Lennon.
