As a New Year’s treat, the classic lineup of Guided by Voices circa ’93-’96 will release a new album Jan 1. 2012. The first album by the band since 2004’s, Half Smiles of the Decomposed, the news comes as a surprise that this classic lineup decided to record new material after a short reunion tour last year.
Featuring Robert Pollard, Tobin Sprout, Greg Demos, Mitch Mitchell and Kevin Fennell, Guided by Voices classic lineup reunited last year to play Matador Records 21’st anniversary show in Las Vegas. Instead of playing the one-off show, the band decided to schedule over a dozen more dates including a spot on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
The sold-out reception to their shows during the 2010 reunion tour seems to have sparked a creative wave for this lineup as the news announcement for the January record, titled Let’s Go Eat The Factory, released today.
This classic lineup wrote and recorded, Bee Thousands, Alien Lanes, and Under the Bushes Under the Stars.
Let’s Go Eat The Factory is scheduled to release Jan. 1.
