Worldwide Release of Amy Winehouse/Tony Bennett “Body and Soul” Duet Birthday Commemoration

It is a bittersweet day for fans of the late, great Amy Winehouse. Her last recorded song “Body and Soul” has just been released in commemoration of what would have been her 28th birthday on September 14.

“Body and Soul” was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London and is the final recording she ever made before her passing on July 23. The recording session was filmed by Oscar-winning cinematographer Dion Beebe (“Chicago,” “Memoirs Of A Geisha”) as part of a large documentary film on Bennett that is in the works.

All proceeds from the sale of the “Body and Soul” single and video will go to The Amy Winehouse Foundation The organization was founded by the singer’s parents, Mitch and Janis Winehouse, with a mission to provide support for young people struggling with ill health, disability, financial disadvantage, or addiction.

Amy Winehouse was not merely a featured artist on Tony Bennett’s album. He has said that they had a very strong relationship and a mutual admiration. He released a statement after her death stating, “She was an extraordinary musician with a rare intuition as a vocalist and I am truly devastated that her exceptional talent has come to such an early end.” He later called her “a lovely and intelligent person”. Winehouse mirrored Bennett’s feelings when she spoke of her excitement of recording “Heart and Soul” before her unfortunate death. She said, “”It was really exciting that he chose that song because I do love it. It’s such a beautifully written song.”

“Body and Soul” will be featured on Tony’s upcoming release, “Tony Bennett: Duets II” out on September 20th via RPM/Columbia Records. “Duets II” produced by Phil Ramone follows up “Tony Bennett Duets: An American Classic” CD, the 2006 Grammy winning best selling CD which became Bennett’s best selling recording to date.
