The Flaming Lips Debut Six Hour Long Song

Front man Wayne Coyne of the psychedelically influenced The Flaming Lips, has recently began revealing details about their ongoing artistic effort most recently seen in their six hour long song entitled “I Found This Star on the Ground.”

Coyne also added that the best way to describe the overall feel of the song is “Velvet Underground meets Super Mario Brothers.”

‘It’s a six-hour song. This is one song that goes on for six hours, yeah. Now I’ve realized, it’s insane. When we started doing it, it didn’t seem like it was that big of a deal. So we were like, “Yeah, we’ll do a song that is six hours long – it will be fun.”’ Said Coyne in a recent Rolling Stones interview.

“I Found This Star on the Ground” is yet another addition to the bizarre overarching project that The Flaming Lips have been working on over the past year. They have made it a goal to put out at least one song a month, yet none are connected in any cohesive manner. So far they’ve released a USB gummy fetus, a joint EP with Neon Indian, and a song in ten parts where you and ten friends load up each part on your iPhone. Coyne has stated in several previous interviews that he would like to have released 40 songs by the end of the year, and possibly a documentary showing the creation process of all of the tracks.

The singer, who said the project took three weeks to complete, also elaborated on the strobe light toy that will accompany the release, and for $100, fans can have their name sung into the lyrics by Coyne himself. For more information visit flaminglipssixhoursong.com.
