Amy Winehouse Died in the Depths of Alcohol Withdrawal Says Father Mitch

Mitch Winehouse, father of late singer Amy Winehouse, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper earlier this week that he believes his daughter died late this past July at the age of 27 while in the throws of alcohol withdrawal.

“Everything Amy did, she did to excess. She drank to excess and did detox to excess,” Winehouse told Cooper of his daughter.

A followup report from last month indicated that there were no illegal drugs in Amy Winehouse’s system at the time of her death, but, said her father, there were noticeable amounts of Librium, a medication used to treat alcohol withdrawal symptoms and anxiety.

Winehouse passed away in late July in her London home of currently undetermined causes.  An initial autopsy proved inconclusive and subsequent toxicology results showed no illegal drugs in the singer’s system.  With very few confirmed details currently out there, a full investigation into Winehouse’s death will begin in July.
