Mos Def To Retire “Mos Def”

In an interview with MTV, rapper/actor Mos Def announced that he plans to retire the “Mos Def” moniker at the end of 2011.

Starting in 2012, Mos Def would like to be known as Yasiin, his first name. Although most sites list his name as Dante Smith, he has been calling himself Yasiin Dante Smith Bey for some time now.

Yasiin (who will be appearing on the sixth season of Dexter) feels that he has “done quite a bit” with the Mos Def name and thinks that “it’s time to expand and move on.” Whether the fans are able to do that and ditch the old name, however, is a different story.
