The Flaming Lips have confirmed that they are, indeed, in the process of recording six-hour song. Odd though the concept may sound, the motivation behind the track, entitled “Found a Star on the Ground,” is actually a charitable one. Proceeds will benefit the Central Oklahoma Humane Society as well as the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma.
The band has employed an interesting and unique method for raising funds: for a fee of just $100, anyone can pay to have their name appear at an indeterminate point on the track. With six hours of music to work with, the Flaming Lips have budgeted ample time to raise a substantial amount of money for these causes.
