Arkansas-born rock outfit Evanescence revealed the album art this week for their upcoming self-titled third album, out October 11 on Wind-Up Records.
Recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, TN and produced by the great Nick Raskulinecz (Velvet Revolver, Foo Fighters), Evanescence went into production last year after singer Amy Lee scrapped an electronic/dance album at the behest of her label.
Lee addressed the issue of recording a more traditional Evanescence record over doing her own thing in a recent interview with MTV News.
“I feel like, not that I’m trying to do what’s important for the music industry, I’m doing what I want — we’re doing what we love. But, at the same time, it’s so refreshing for us to play music that we want to hear,” she told MTV. “It rocks, and not that there’s nothing going on that does, but less and less, that’s definitely not what’s dominating the airwaves.”
Evanescence, as the followup to 2006’s The Open Door, will serve as the band’s first new material in five years. They similarly broke a two-year streak of no live concert performances on August 17 when they played four new songs from the upcoming album at Nashville’s War Memorial Auditorium. Prior to that, they stopped by MTV on August 8 to perform “What You Want,” the first single from the album.
The band, which consists now of Lee along with drummer Will Hunt, bassist Tim McCord, and guitar players Troy McLawhorn and Terry Balsamo, will kick off fall tour on October 10 in Oakland, CA.
