Oklahoma psychonauts the Flaming Lips recently released four-song EP in collaboration with Providence noise rockers Lightning Bolt. Last month, we showed the first video from that EP, “I Wanna Get High But I Don’t Want Brain Damage”, and now the bands have released the second video, “I’m Working at NASA on Acid”. Check out the video for “I’m Working at NASA on Acid” below:
“I Wanna Get High But I don’t Want Brain Damage” immediately punches you in the head as Lip’s lead singer Wayne Coyne’s deep, exaggerated bellows crash into your eardrums as he desperately cries out to have his cake and eat it as well. “I’m Working at NASA on Acid” begins with a much more mellow, yet equally desolate sounding spaced-out Western psych jam, that sheds its poke-along pace at around 3 minutes and breaks into an explosive drum beat with a manic, otherworldly voice demanding to know, “why, why, why?”, sounding as if it were being sucked through a space that was too small for it, as a miasma of neon- colored lights flash almost violently across the screen.
