ZZ Top Tribute Album Featuring Coheed & Cambria, Chris Daughtry and Wyclef Jean, Among Others, to See October Release

Legendary rock trio ZZ Top will be honored by an unlikely collective of musicians in October with the release of A Tribute From Friends, an album that consists of ZZ Top tracks covered by artists such as Mastodon, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Wyclef Jean and, yes, Nickelback.

Out October 11 via Show Dog/Universal Music, the album will feature covers of 11 of the band’s most beloved tracks in a wide range of genres.  The first track, “Sharp Dressed Man,” gets a tune-up from The M.O.B., which features Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Fleetwood Mac’s Mick Fleetwood and John McVie along with guitar legend Jonny Lang.

More contemporary musicians on the album include prog-rock outfit Coheed and Cambria performing “Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers” and Wolfmother re-doing the hit “Cheap Sunglasses.”

ZZ Top issued a statement about the tribute album, which you can read below:

“When we were told there was going to be a ZZ Top tribute album a while ago and logically asked, ‘Who are we paying tribute to?’  Then we found out that a bunch of great artists were paying tribute to us and we were in disbelief.  For the past 40 or so years, all we’ve done is get out there and crank it and try to have a good time while doing so. To a great extent, we’ve succeeded since we’re still having a good time so that would be reward enough for ‘the same three guys playing the same three chords.’ Now comes A Tribute From Friends and we’re so delighted that our music resonates with these great musicians whom we so admire.”

The tracklisting for A Tribute from Friends is as follows:

“Sharp Dressed Man” – The M.O.B. (Mick Fleetwood, Steven Tyler, Jonny Lang & John McVie)
“Gimme All Your Lovin’” – Filter
“Tush” – Grace Potter & The Nocturnals
“Legs” – Nickelback
“Cheap Sunglasses” – Wolfmother
“Got Me Under Pressure” – Duff McKagan’s LOADED
“Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers” – Coheed & Cambria
“Just Got Paid” – Mastodon
“Rough Boy” – Wyclef Jean
“Waitin’ for the Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago” – Daughtry
“La Grange” – Jamey Johnson
