Surprising none, the Jay-Z and Kanye West collaborative LP Watch The Throne debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Album Charts in its first week.
With 436,000 copies bought, it marks the second-largest sales week of the year for an album, following Lady Gaga’s Born This Way start of 1.1 million.
Nearly 75% of the albums were bought digitally, and 290,000 copies were bought through iTunes downloads alone—which, according to Apple, breaks their one-week sales record previously held by Coldplay’s 2008 Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends, which sold 282,000 copies through iTunes. Watch the Throne marks Jay-Z’s twelfth number one album—the second most all time behind the Beatles—and West’s fifth.
