Mavis Staples, of Staple Singers glory, has been breathing fresh life into the song “The Weight” all over the country with various music industry legends – including original artist The Band, as seen in Martin Scorsese’s concert documentary The Last Waltz.
At last weekend’s Outside Lands in San Francisco, Staples collaborated with Win Butler of Arcade Fire. The frontman played guitar, sang backup, and even took the reins for a verse to an overjoyed crowd.
Earlier this summer, she covered the song at the Newport Folk Festival with Colin Meloy of the Decemberists.
