Moogfest to Host Brian Eno’s 77 Million Paintings Art Installation

In addition to a lineup that includes the likes of The Flaming Lips, Tangerine Dream and Umphrey’s McGee, this year’s Moogfest will also feature visual music art installation from electronic musician/producer Brian Eno entitled 77 Million Paintings along with another one of his “illustrated talks”.

Moogfest, running October 28-30 in Asheville, NC, will serve as the first installation of 77 Million Pieces in the US outside California.  Eno describes the installation as “visual music,” blending light and music into an ever-evolving sound/image-scape through generative software.

Eno plans to present his exhibit on a collection of video screens that he configured, ultimately with hopes to produce a slowly but constantly changing visual interpretation of music that is never the same twice.

According to a recent press release, Eno designed the exhibit to encourage viewers to embrace a more comtemplative, reflective state and consider the unique nature of passing moments.

The exhibit will run throughout Moogfest and until the end of November at Asheville’s YMI Cultural Center and will be open to the general public starting Nov. 2.

Details regarding Eno’s Illustrated Talks will reportedly be released in the weeks approaching the festival’s start date.

This is not Eno’s first foray into artistic projects aside from straight music production—he recently announced that he would begin construction on a 10,000 year clock back in early July.
