Bjork has released a video for “Crystalline,” the first single from her upcoming album Biophilia, out September 27. Directed by Michael Gondry, the video features an 80s video game feel complete with good-bad special effects and trippy visuals.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Gondry said that the video was painstakingly shot in order to establish a building of the meteorite/light themes to their ultimate end.
“I decided for this that the shower of meteorite would hit the ground and produce a sound . . . The idea that a beam of light can have the impact to make these things move is something that intrigued me. Later on, they create some ripples-like rain. At the third verse, they create bubbles in which the metallic objects appear. All of those are the result of multiple conversations with [Björk] that were going in many directions,” he said.
While we wait for Biophilia’s release, you can pre-order the album over at Nonesuch Records.
