Though he plans on releasing his upcoming solo album towards the end of the year, Outkast MC Big Boi has told Junior Online that he could release it tomorrow. Tentatively titled, Daddy Fat Sax: Soul Funk Crusader, Big Boi promises another killer album that’s hard on the beat for his sophomore solo record.
I’m 17 songs into it now, everything is sounding phenomenal. I could put it out tomorrow if I wanted to, said Big Boi to Junior Online.
However, beats won’t be the only hard hitting musical feature to the new album. Big Boi also plans on bringing saxophones into the mix for more authentic funk flavor.
I’m planning on a doing a bunch of sax samples, tenor, soprano, and probably have at least a couple sax players come into the studio for the next record, Big Boi told Tiny Mix Tapes.
Despite a lack of details about the 17 tracks thus far, Big Boi has been forth coming about his sax samples, but also main collaborator for the tentatively titled album. Protégé and Idlewild collaborator Janelle Monáe has been brought on for Big Boi’s next solo album.
She’s somebody whose hand you don’t have to hold. She’s got a creative mind, she’s got a great spirit, said Big Boi during his Junior Online interview.
Although Daddy Fat is no blood relative of Big Boi; with his previous album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, paying homage to his now deceased father via his nickname gained as a fighter pilot , Daddy Fat Sacks was a White Castle employee who would give he and Andre 3k extra sliders when they frequented the fast foot joint between writing and recording sessions because he was a fan , added Big Boi during his Tiny Mix Tapes interview.
Now that their burger confidante Daddy Fat Sacks has passed on, Big Boi has tentatively titled the album in homage to him with a saxophone twist.
