Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich DJ at Glastonbury Til Dawn

Away from the lustrous sights, sounds, and celebrities that lingered around the many stages at the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, a special show took place tucked tightly within the avant gardens of the dystopian Shangri-La area and the Unfairgrounds as Nigel Godrich and Thom Yorke split the decks after Radiohead’s secret show DJing until dawn.

In a crypt yet poetic post on Radiohead’s Dead Air Space blog, Yorke described the “other” Glastonbury that took place far from the “media circus” as he called it.  Within the sprawling art filled exhibition areas an entirely different world at Glastonbury provided the atmosphere for another surprise which culminated at the 2011 festival.

the one you aren’t reading much about, the one they couldn’t hang.
the fun, chilled out and insane one.
the one that couldn’t give a flying toss who you are really. the one we went for.
the one around the stone circle, and under the flags. in the rabbit hole. in the darkest depths of shangri-la.
around the van de graff lightning generator crackling through in soaking sky,
and in a crashed aeroplane fuselage where we and our friends were.. nigel and i Djing.. until dawn

With possible homage to the campfire culture of Strummerville via stone circles and obviously hinting at the Shangri-La and Unfairground areas within the camping complex of Glastonbury, Yorke chided the lack of coverage and discourse on another major aspect of the festival where he seemed to find more fun.

As for the crashed aeroplane fuselage, the plane wreck as Glastonbury calls it is a retired plane’s fuselage dolled up as a plane which crashed into the Unfairground area of the festival.  Blistering dub step beats and hip hop classics, Yorke and Godrich apparently kept this plane wreck turned spin-club bumping until dawn.
